Akron-Canton Airport is Ohio’s First Airport to Receive Global Health Accreditation!
GREEN Efforts to ensure a safe and healthy environment for travelers have earned recognition for Akron-Canton Airport.
The Airports Council International (ACI) included Akron-Canton on the agency's Airport Health Accreditation program. Accreditation is based on evidence that the airport is following best practices and using technology and procedures designed to mitigate health risks.
“As we serve travelers through the pandemic, our focus is to exceed the expectations of those trusting us to serve them in their travel needs,” Ren Camacho, Akron-Canton president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Camacho also said earning "the highest global health accreditation" reaffirms the airport's commitment to taking maximum health and safety measures.
Some of the new features being used by the airport include ultraviolet light air filtration, NanoSeptic self-cleaning surfaces and a long-lasting disinfectant called microSURE™.
Camacho said the airport sought cost-effective processes and equipment as it attacked the coronavirus threat.. The goal has been to get programs in place and functioning, then plan for possible long-term upgrades to systems.
The self-cleaning NanoSeptic screens have been applied to kiosks, elevator buttons and a variety of other surfaces. The airport has ordered a new size of NanoSeptic bins that can be used by guests as they move trough TSA lines to the boarding area.
Using microSURE™, an all-purpose cleaner and spray, is an additional layer of disinfecting, Camacho said.
Earning the ACI rating is a testament to the work of the airport's custodial and maintenance teams, he said. It's a third-party validation of their efforts to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
Efforts also include making certain guests can obtain a mask if one is needed, installing plexiglass barriers and markings for social distancing, spacing seating and installing stations with hand sanitizer.
